Managers View Of The Season So Far
Where do I start? Since setting up FC Slavia I've realized that as a manager, things don't always go particularly smoothly.
Firstly I must praise, and thank everybody that's played for the club so far. Bar one game (the 2-1 loss vs. SAS) the attitude & effort has been second to none which has certainly made it easier for myself. So far, just 6 games into the season I've been impressed with the team in terms of scraping wins to get us to where we currently are in the league . All of our games bar two have been by a single goal which pleases me as it shows that we're not an easy side to play against. The defeat on the opening day is a result which has seemingly kicked us up the arse, coming from 3-0 down at half time and winning 3-4 against Monkspath proves so as does 1 defeat & 4 wins since that 3-0 loss.
Of course, managing a team isn't a 1 man task, which is where I have the pleasure of having a good friend with a good knowledge of the game helping me out and doing a great job (Nat Peters). It's always good to get an idea of how you want a team to play and I'd like to believe that me & Nat are very much agreed on a game plan which consists of us retaining the ball, always working hard to win it back, and utilising the counter attack at pace to cause problems and score goals.
I'm now in a sticky situation, and I'll openly admit that I'm unsure with regards to what my expectations should now be for the long distance left in this campaign. Should I be pleased with us being in the middle of the table, or should I start to expect a strong push for promotion?
Either way, it's been a decent start to the season, and hopefully we can continue the good work on Sunday against a very good Opportunity Knockers side.
